ALPHA GPC
ALPHA GPC
MECHANISM OF ACTION AND LITERATURE
Alpha-GPC (Alpha Glyceryl Phosphoryl Choline, Choline alfoscerate) is a choline-containing phospholipid with cognitive enhancement capabilities, suggested to counteract cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease, stroke, and other adult-onset dementia. Alpha-GPC is considered a parasympathetic agent used as a nutraceutical in many countries. Preclinical studies have shown that Alpha-GPC increases acetylcholine release and levels, as well as facilitating learning and memory. Alpha-GPC has been shown to increase acetylcholine levels in the aging brain. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that contributes to communication between nerve cells and between neurons and their skeletal muscles and autonomic targets. It also plays a crucial role in the brain's ability to store and retrieve information. In clinical trials, Alpha-GPC has been found to improve cognition, behavior, and functional outcomes in patients with Alzheimer's disease, stroke, and cerebral ischemic attacks.
